Mike Walton had experienced terrorism from every angle. As a covert field operations officer, he thought he'd seen it all, but that was before terrorism struck him directly at home. Suffering devastating physical injury and unthinkable personal loss, Mike had one of two choices give up or fight back, and giving up wasn't in his makeup.

Mike and his wife, Lisa, a medical doctor and fellow counter-terrorism expert, are recruited by the International Market Stabilization Institute, a privately funded organization operating outside official channels to protect North America's financial interests. The strikes that destroyed Mike and Lisa's household - the work of Sheik Al-Assad - are bringing the Western economy to its knees. And they are only the beginning. If the Sheik succeeds, the world will change forever, and the next attack is just around the corner. Mike and Lisa must lead a hastily assembled team to Europe to stop the madness before time runs out.

Rippling with tension, raging with action, and replete with the kinds of details only a true counter-terrorism insider can provide, The Thin Black Line is a nonstop thriller of the first order. It announces an unforgettable new team of characters and a distinctive new voice to the thriller world.

The Thin Black Line A Mike Walton Thriller Book 1 (Audible Audio Edition) Simon Gervais Adam Hanin The Story Plant Books

Mike Walton, a federal air marshal and Lisa, a doctor and his wife, give up their former identities and any semblance of a "normal" life to fight terrorists who have destroyed their family and hundreds of other innocent citizens in terrorist attacks. Terrorist plots and action take place in Ottawa, New York, cities in France, Sierra Leone among other places, as the Waltons and their team members attempt unravel the conspiracies, to track down the terrorists and to prevent their devastating attacks.

The Thin Black Line is suspenseful and kept me wondering how it would conclude. (Could there be a happy ending?) I wondered if i could "trust" some of the characters-- if they were who they presented themselves to be. The author's experience in law enforcement and the military provided realistic military, weaponry, covert operations, and foreign scene details that make the story believable and take the reader to scenes of the action. I'm looking forward to "book 2" and ready to find out what happens next.

The Thin Black Line A Mike Walton Thriller Book 1 (Audible Audio Edition) Simon Gervais Adam Hanin The Story Plant Books Reviews

What a great first book by a "been there-done that" author. I really reminded me of Vince Flynn's first offering. I was a bit leery at first when I read the preview and it said it was about a married couple doing the same things that Mitch Rapp and Scot Harvath et.al. do. We all know what happened to Mitch's wife Anna (or if you don't you need to find out!) and all other love interests just seem to "waste time" in those other author's novels. But in this book, Simon made it work, albeit some of the early chapters are pretty depressing but very action filled. Thankfully there was a lot of very plausible action and chock full of details. And I loved that he uses footnotes, with explanations at the end of the book. I highly recommend this book and can't wait until his next one comes out, which I believe will be later this calendar year.
This is the first book by Simon Grevais, although it would be very hard to tell because this storyline is well developed, the plot and action are realistic and most of all the characters endure such great tragedy in the first several chapters that just floored me and literally had me in tears. This action packed thriller is smart, fast paced, gut wrenching, does NOT overkill with too many details, yet there is enough grit, factual sequencing and tactical details so that the seasoned reader knows that this author is legit. I like the way we're shown the main character's thoughts and finally, I look forward to seeing how Mike and Lisa's working relationship progresses as does their banter or ribbing of one another. This was an amazing book and I am happy to have started with you from the beginning. Vince Flynn is my number 1 author, his passing devastated me, so finding someone as talented as you has made me very happy. I am looking forward to your 2nd book.
I almost never quit reading a book once I'm more than a couple of chapters into it. This was, perhaps, the 6th over the course of my nearly 76 years. I got half way through listening to this drivel but just couldn't stand it any further.

The plot lines are extraordinarily thin. Characters are developed in too much or too little detail - never "just right". Scenarios are described which simply could NOT happen - - even after substantial suspension of disbelief.

The language is purely imaginary and unrealistic.

The reader should be arrested for over-acting!!

I can't go on even thinking about this book any more.
Being able to suspend the element of disbelief is always a prerequisite to being able to enjoy a thriller. If a book of fiction read the way it would most likely play out in reality no one would want to read it. We get enough of that every day. There were a few things that I found a little more difficult to accept than usual, but it didn't bother me as much as it seems to have bothered others.

While it seems many have jumped on the "one man saves the world" bus, Gervais adds a twist by making it a husband and wife team. The transition from doctor to terrorist-killing-badarse is made more believable by the backstory and her time in the military. Add the trauma of gut-wrenching loss, it's easy to see how such a 180° turn could happen. People handle stress in different ways. Lisa's was to crave revenge. Who could fault her for that?

The pace of the book was good. Something was always happening, so to the reviewer who said it was slow - try reading faster. And to the guy who didn't like that several terrorist-killers were women, just wow. Hope your derriere doesn't need rescuing by a woman one day. Jeez.

Readers who grip about "no ending" must never watch TV with season-ending cliff-hangers. Enough of the plot was wrapped up to give the book a statisfying ending. Yes, there's more of the story to come, and there's nothing wrong with that.

I liked the characters and am looking forward to reading "Long Gray Line," the novella that will, perhaps, wrap up one of the big questions left open at the end.
This is a very fast paced, breath holding and edge of the seat thriller. The story started right in with a terrifying opening that I don’t think I will ever forget. Words really don't convey the realism and believability of this work of Simon Gervais. The author's experience in law enforcement and the military provided realistic military, weaponry, covert operations, and foreign scene details that make the story believable.
In my opinion Mr. Gervais is one of the most exciting new writer. A wonderful new author who may just be a Vince Flynn rival. I'm so looking forward to Book 2 for some unanswered questions and ready to find out what Mike and Lisa and the IMSI are up against next. Well done Simon!!!
